‘I Just Keep Quiet’: Addressing the Challenges of Married Rohingya Girls and Creating Opportunities for Change

Abstract Child marriage among Rohingya refugees living in Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh, is driven by economic strain and deep-seated gender norms. Mounting evidence shows the harmful effects of child marriage, SDG 5.3 underpins a global impetus to eliminate it. Our mixed-methods research across refugee camps Ukhia Teknaf Upazilas included quantitative surveys qualitative interviews (IDIs) with married unmarried girls their parents, focus group discussions (FGDs) parents girls, boys, community members understand perspectives on role norms displacement, how girls’ capabilities are impacted marital status.
